This afternoon I drove into the driveway and what did I see but two deer (above) casually grazing on our lawn (outside the fence). I stopped my car and they stared at me. I got out of my car and they stared at me. I clapped my hands and they stared at me. Then I ran onto the grass and yelled at them. They ran away, inconvenienced but not frightened. I went in the house and immediately sent Allie outside. She barked at them and they went further into the wetlands behind our house.
Not five minutes later I looked outside and one of them was back (still outside the fence). I sent Allie out right away and she barked at the deer and chased it. The deer ran into the wetlands, but returned a few minutes later. (No photo of the third visit.) Again I sent Allie out and again she chased the deer away. I'm positive they know they are safe and that they'll be back soon. I think our only solution to this problem is an improved fence. It's already on our "to do" list, but with every deer sighting it's inching closer and closer to the top of that list.
Maybe you need something that sounds like a gun.
