Thanksgiving Around the Country

Mary spent her Thanksgiving break with my mom and dad in Temecula, California. On Thanksgiving Day they went to my sister's house. Now Mary is back at school and ready to finish up her fall quarter. We are already looking forward to seeing her in just under three weeks! With Stanford's win last night, Mary gets to play in one more Stanford home football game this year: the Pac-12 Championship Game this coming Friday night vs. UCLA. If Stanford wins, the Rose Bowl is next!
John and Troy spent their Thanksgiving in Kentucky with Troy's parents and her siblings. We had a video chat with them over the weekend. We missed seeing them at Thanksgiving but we are excited to be going out to St. Louis with Mary to visit them over Christmas.
Allie was home with us all weekend. Here she is demonstrating her amazingly deranged jumping ability, and proving that whether it's Brad ringing the doorbell or UPS, she'll get just as crazy.
In exchange for feeding him and providing such excellent company, we extracted some work from Peter. He helped Brad finish his mailbox house. In the rural area where we live, the snowplows knock down mailboxes like toothpicks. The idea behind this is to make it so that the snowplow doesn't mow down ours. The plow could still knock this one down, but it's a lot heavier (it took all three of us to carry it to the street) and a lot taller than the one it replaced.
Mission accomplished! If you know what our house looks like, you know that Brad paid close attention to detail in choosing the design and colors. (And for all you safety freaks, today we bought house numbers to put on it.)
I simmered the turkey bones in the crock pot for 24 hours, which is much longer than I've ever done before, and it made a delicious broth. We had turkey-vegetable-noodle soup for dinner last night during the Stanford football game. Yum!
After dinner we had a Hostess farewell party. None of us had eaten anything Hostess for years, and now I remember why. Not only was everything stale and chemically-tasting, but I woke up with the worst stomach ache. (Though as Peter pointed out, part of my stomach ache might be attributable to mixing the Hostess with beer.)
We had such a happy weekend with Peter. A lot of food, a little shopping, some work around the house, a movie, a football game ..... but mostly a chance to be together and enjoy each others' company. We weren't so sad to take him to the train station this morning either, since we know he'll be home in less than three weeks for his early Christmas visit.
