Our Great Debater

Mary made school history today as the first debater at Nonnewaug to make it to the finals of a debate tournament!  Go Mary!!

Here she is on the way out the door at about 7am.  Little did she know what awaited her . . . . .

Her school debate partner called in sick, so since there weren't any other kids from her school available, Mary got paired with a girl from another school.  After a day of debating, the two of them were the first "combined team" to EVER make it to the finals of a Connecticut Debate Association debate!  Here they are in the final round.

In the final round, they went up against a team that included the #1 debater in the state.  The girls took 2nd place, which isn't too bad for two people who hadn't met each other until today!  (And in the process, they each made a new friend.)

Mary and the very happy Nonnewaug coaches, who never had a student make it to the final round until today!  (And she qualified for States too!)
