High Water

Flooding was the cause for today's 10th day of cancelled school for the year. There are three rivers that run through Woodbury, and after yesterday's downpour, all three of them flooded roads. Before dawn this morning, it took Brad almost an hour to get from our house to Main Street, since practically every route to get there was closed due to flooding.  I decided to try to get into town this morning to take Allie on her walk.  We managed to get there, but there were many road blocks, which gave me a chance to take some pictures to share with you . . . . .
This is the Pomperaug River, which is the river we normally cross to get into town.  See how wide it looks?  I would estimate the river is usually about 20 feet across.  The road across it was flooded.
This is the Weekeepeemee River.  See how wide it looks?  It's at least double its normal width in this picture.
In the foreground of this picture is the Weekeepeemee River.  In the background is Three Rivers Park, which is normally a large open field.  Today it's a big lake, and it flooded the road that runs next to it.
We live on a hill, and our driveway is downhill.  When you add rain to that equation, you get a lot of runoff.
Rocks deposited at the top of our driveway from runoff on the street.  We have similar rocks all the way down our driveway.  Later today I need to get a big shovel and get them off the driveway.
Runoff into our garden area.  The good news is that most of the snow is now gone . . . .
