Wonderful Washington Weekend

Brad and I visited Peter in Washington, D.C. this weekend and we had a great time together. We arrived Friday night and Peter joined us for a slumber party at our hotel. In the morning we went to a favorite place for breakfast in the Adams Morgan neighborhood. I'll let you guess the name of the restaurant.

Saturday afternoon we did something that none of us had done before: we visited Annapolis, Maryland. It was a super hot day, and being near the water was a good call. We took it easy, just strolling and eating. On our strolling we saw the state capitol, the Naval Academy, St. John's College, and historic Annapolis. Our visit was short, so we want to go back again and more time there. (It's only about 35 miles/55 minutes from D.C.)

Saturday night we went to St. Arnold's Mussel Bar in Adams Morgan, a favorite place of Peter's. The mussels were sublime, and the frits were delightful.

Peter's college friends Tim and Mike surprised Peter by joining us for a beer at the end of the evening.

Sunday morning we had breakfast at Open City in Woodley Park. We had to wait an hour for our table, but it was worth it; breakfast was yummy!

We got to meet Kayla and she joined us for breakfast!

On Sunday afternoon we helped Peter move some boxes to his soon-to-be-new apartment. (More on that later this week.) No hot summer moving day is complete without a little beer to cool things off, and what better beer to have than Brad and John's homemade brew. We brought Peter a six-pack and on moving day we shared a bottle among us. This was the first taste of the batch after its requisite three-week fermentation. It was quite good, but in a Brewer glass, how could it not be?

We capped off the weekend with dinner on Sunday night at Churchkey in Logan Circle. Neither Peter nor Kayla had been there before, so we all got to try something new. The selection of taps was outstanding, as was the service and recommendations. We tried some interesting beers and learned a lot. But of course, better than the beer (or the food) was the great company.

  1. First time caller, long time fan. Your post was a delight but there is a question that I think will be at the forefront of everyone's mind when they reach the end. I thought perhaps you could put minds at ease here and now: what is The Yuengling?
