The eating continues. Although Brad and I didn't have "breakfast" until almost noon today, we more than made up for lost time. Mary's host mom had us over for lunch. This is the table she set. She made a Spanish Omlette (more like a potato quiche - delicious!), Spanish ham, fish, chicken, vegetables, sangria, bread, and dessert. We had great conversation (in Spanish, with Mary translating as necessary) during lunch about various Spanish topics, among them bull fighting. Very interesting! Her host mom is so nice and we have really been enjoying our time with her.
Afterwards we walked Mary to school as she had two classes this afternoon. It's roughly a mile from her apartment to school, all through neighborhoods. Here she is outside her school. This building houses the Stanford program, as well as overseas programs for Syracuse, Boston University, USC, and SUNY.
This is the inside of the building. It's very pretty and light. Stanford's program is on the fourth floor. The building has been an international institute for over 100 years. It was originally called "The American College in Madrid" and was built as an international institute for "the Christian education of girls in Spain." (This is according to a plaque in the lobby.)
After Mary finished with her classes we ran into her friend Kyle (also in her program) and enjoyed a drink at a cafe across the street from school. This was phase one of our dinner. Phase two of our dinner (not pictured - sorry) was at the pastry place Mary took us to. We all got a coffee and shared some super delicious pastries. It was heavenly.
Phase three of our dinner was ..... dinner! We went to a little place in Mary's neighborhood and had a light dinner. (But after pastries can any dinner be considered light?!) Today we again walked many miles, and I'm just crossing my fingers that our walking will in some small way compensate for all the eating we're doing!
I think Mary's host mom needs a table runner made by Mary's Grandma Petey!
